Collagen Induction Therapy
What Is Microneedling?
Microneedling uses fine, sterile needles to create controlled micro-channels in your skin's surface. These tiny punctures trigger your body's natural healing response, boosting production of collagen and elastin (the two proteins behind firm, smooth, youthful-looking skin).
At Oak City MedAesthetics, we use the Candela Matrix Pro, a medical-grade device that offers both traditional microneedling and RF (radiofrequency) microneedling in one platform. Traditional microneedling is ideal for surface-level concerns like fine lines, texture, and mild scarring. RF microneedling goes deeper, delivering radiofrequency energy through the needles to heat underlying tissue and promote tighter, firmer skin from within.
Acne scars, enlarged pores, dull skin. Microneedling in Raleigh handles all of it with minimal downtime. Amy will assess your skin during a consultation at our North Raleigh office on Falls of Neuse Road and recommend the approach that best matches your goals.
Treatment Areas
What Microneedling Treats
Texture & Tone
Microneedling smooths rough skin texture, reduces dullness, and evens out skin tone for a brighter, more refined complexion. Fine lines and early wrinkles respond especially well to collagen induction therapy.
Scarring
One of the most effective non-surgical options for acne scars, surgical scars, and stretch marks. Microneedling breaks down old scar tissue and encourages new, healthy collagen to fill in and smooth your skin's surface.
Tightening
RF microneedling targets skin laxity, large pores, and jawline definition by delivering radiofrequency energy deep into the dermis. The controlled heating tightens existing collagen fibers while stimulating new collagen production over time.
Rejuvenation
Sun damage, age spots, and overall skin dullness all benefit from microneedling's ability to accelerate cell turnover and boost collagen. The result is healthier, more resilient skin with a natural, youthful glow.
Compare Treatments
Traditional vs. RF Microneedling
Traditional Microneedling
Traditional microneedling uses fine, sterile needles to create micro-channels in the skin's surface layer. This controlled injury activates your body's natural healing process, flooding the treatment area with fresh collagen and elastin. It's an excellent choice for improving skin texture, reducing fine lines, fading mild acne scars, and achieving an overall brighter complexion. Most clients describe the sensation as light pressure after numbing cream is applied.
RF Microneedling
RF microneedling combines the collagen-stimulating benefits of traditional microneedling with radiofrequency energy delivered through the needle tips. This dual-action approach heats the deeper layers of skin, causing existing collagen to contract and tighten while promoting robust new collagen growth. RF microneedling is the preferred option for skin laxity, deeper scars, pore reduction, and jawline contouring.
The Candela Matrix Pro can perform both traditional and RF microneedling, giving our team the flexibility to tailor every session to your specific skin concerns. During your consultation, we'll evaluate your skin, discuss your goals, and recommend the right treatment (or combination) for the best results.

Common Questions
Microneedling FAQ
How many microneedling sessions do I need?
Most clients see significant improvement in 3-4 sessions spaced 4-6 weeks apart. The exact number depends on your skin concerns and goals. Once you've achieved your desired results, maintenance treatments every 3-6 months help sustain the collagen you've built and keep your skin looking its best.
Does microneedling hurt?
We apply a topical numbing cream about 30 minutes before your treatment, so most clients feel only mild pressure during the procedure. RF microneedling adds a slight warming sensation from the radiofrequency energy, but the majority of clients find it very tolerable. Your provider adjusts needle depth and energy levels to keep you comfortable throughout.
What's the downtime for microneedling?
Your skin will be pink or red for 24-48 hours after treatment, similar to a mild sunburn. Most clients return to normal activities the next day. We recommend avoiding direct sun exposure, makeup, and active skincare ingredients (like retinol and vitamin C) for 48-72 hours to allow your skin to heal properly.
When will I see results from microneedling?
You'll notice a glow and smoother texture within about a week of your first session. The bigger changes happen beneath the surface, though. Collagen remodeling continues for 3-6 months after each treatment, and results build with every session.
Is microneedling safe for all skin types?
Yes, microneedling is safe for all skin types and tones, which is one of its key advantages over certain laser treatments that carry a higher risk of hyperpigmentation on darker skin. We'll customize the treatment depth and settings on the Candela Matrix Pro for your specific skin type and concerns.
How much does microneedling cost in Raleigh?
Standard microneedling starts at $295 per session. PRF microneedling, which uses your body's own Platelet Rich Fibrin to enhance healing and collagen production, is $495 per session. We also offer Hydraneedle Silver ($250) and Hydraneedle Platinum ($450) packages. Most clients see the best results with a series of 3-4 treatments. Book a consultation for a personalized treatment plan.
Do you offer PRP microneedling in Raleigh?
We offer PRF microneedling, the newer, second-generation version of PRP (sometimes called a "vampire facial"). PRF, or Platelet Rich Fibrin, comes from a small sample of your own blood and releases into the skin more gradually than traditional PRP, which many providers prefer for collagen support and healing. You can add PRF to microneedling on its own or as part of our Hydraneedle Platinum treatment. We'll help you choose at your consultation.
