Neuromodulators
What Are Botox & Tox Injections?
Neuromodulators like Botox, Dysport, and Xeomin are some of the most popular non-surgical aesthetic treatments out there. They temporarily relax the muscles that cause dynamic wrinkles, the lines that form from years of smiling, squinting, and everyday expressions. The result? Smoother skin that still moves naturally.
At Oak City MedAesthetics, we carry all three leading neuromodulator brands. Botox and Dysport are the well-known names, each with a long track record of reliable results. Xeomin is sometimes called the "naked" neurotoxin because it contains no complexing proteins. It's a great choice if you want a pure formulation or if you've developed resistance to other products. Not sure which one is right for you? We'll walk you through the options during your consultation.
Every tox injection at our practice is performed personally by Sarah Walker, FNP-C, a board-certified nurse practitioner serving North Raleigh, Wake Forest, and the Triangle. Sarah takes an artistry-first approach to injectables, focusing on results that look natural and enhance your features rather than freeze them. Her deep understanding of facial anatomy means precise placement for outcomes that look and feel like you. Just refreshed.

Who Is a Good Candidate?
One of the questions I get asked most often is "Am I a good candidate for Botox?" The short answer: most adults are. But here's a closer look at who tends to get the best results.
If you're in your late 20s or early 30s and just starting to notice fine lines when your face is at rest, tox injections are a great preventive step. Treating those muscles early can actually slow down the formation of deeper wrinkles over time. It's one of the smartest things you can do for your skin now, and a lot of my North Raleigh clients start here.
Tox is also a fantastic option if you already have moderate lines on your forehead, between your brows, or around your eyes. Those active lines that show up when you smile or squint? That's exactly what neuromodulators are designed for. And even deeper lines that stick around at rest can soften significantly with consistent treatment.
There are a few situations where tox isn't the right choice. If you're pregnant or breastfeeding, we'll want to wait. Same goes for anyone with a neuromuscular disorder like myasthenia gravis or ALS. And if you have an active skin infection in the area we'd be treating, we'll reschedule until that clears up.
Not sure if tox is the right fit? That's what your consultation is for. We'll go over your medical history, look at your areas of concern, and figure out the best plan together. No pressure, no guesswork.
What to Expect
1. Consultation
Your visit starts with a one-on-one consultation where Sarah will assess your facial anatomy, talk through your goals, and put together a treatment plan that makes sense for you.
2. Treatment
The procedure itself takes just 10-15 minutes. Sarah uses ultra-fine needles to place small amounts of neuromodulator into the targeted muscles. Most clients describe it as a brief pinch.
3. Results
You'll start to see results within 3-5 days, with full effects visible at 2 weeks. Results typically last 3-4 months, and regular treatments can help results last longer over time.
Frequently Asked Questions
How long does Botox last?
Results typically last 3-4 months. With regular treatments, some clients find their results last longer over time as the targeted muscles gradually weaken.
Does Botox hurt?
Most clients describe the sensation as a brief pinch. The needles used are ultra-fine, and the treatment takes only 10-15 minutes. You typically don't need numbing, though we can apply it if you'd like.
What's the difference between Botox, Dysport, and Xeomin?
All three are neuromodulators that temporarily relax muscles to smooth wrinkles. Botox and Dysport contain a complexing protein while Xeomin is a "naked" molecule. Each has slightly different onset times and spread patterns. During your consultation, Sarah will recommend the best option for your specific goals.
How much does Botox cost?
We currently offer Xeomin and Jeuveau at $11 per unit, or $10 per unit for loyalty program members. The total cost depends on the areas treated and the number of units needed. Most clients use 20-60 units per session. We'll schedule a complimentary follow-up 14-21 days after treatment to make sure you love your results. Book a consultation to get a personalized quote.
When can I return to normal activities?
There's no downtime. Most clients return to their daily routine immediately. We recommend avoiding strenuous exercise, lying flat, and rubbing the treated area for 4-6 hours after treatment.
How many units of Botox do I need?
It depends on the area being treated and how strong your muscles are. Some people need a little more, some a little less. During your consultation at our Falls of Neuse Road office, Sarah will assess your facial muscles and give you an honest recommendation tailored to your goals. You'll never be talked into more units than you actually need.
Can I combine Botox with other treatments?
Absolutely. A lot of clients pair tox with other treatments for more complete results. Dermal fillers work great alongside Botox because they address different concerns. Tox relaxes the muscles that cause wrinkles, while fillers restore lost volume in areas like the cheeks, lips, and under-eyes. You can also combine tox with facials, microneedling, or chemical peels, though we may space certain treatments out by a week or two. We'll map out the right timing so everything works together safely.
